Is Yahuah the Correct Way of Pronouncing YHWH and Is Yahusha the Correct name of His Son? By Bro. Duane

I have read in social media that a group of people introduces itself as experts in Hebrew language. They insist that the correct way to pronounce YHWH is Yahuah.

Is Yahuah the correct Pronunciation of YHWH just like how it is shown below?

This picture was sent by my friend who got it from an agnostic which allegedly proves the correct pronunciation of YHWH.

YHWH is pointed as Adoniai (“My Lord”) in the Masoretic Hebrew text.

In Jewish tradition, some substitute Ha-Shem (“the Name”).

The belief of many is this was originally pronounced as “Yahweh” from the verb “to be” (hwh) which indicates hiphil imperfect 3ms verb meaning “he causes to be” or “he creates” as divine epithet and later became proper divine name.

This claim for the “correct” vocalization of the divine name YHWH as Yahuah goes beyond the concrete evidence.

Everything is imaginary.  The issue concerns the degree of certainty. Anyone who claims the only “correct” articulation pushes too hard.

Here is our concrete proof: (1) Greek transliterations in the LXX of the divine name yielded the pronunciation Yahveh = Yhw(h); and (2) the name of the deity called Yhw who was worshipped by the Shasu ( = Midianites)

Jewish tradition mentions seven holy names of God which cannot be erased. It should be written with special focus. Due to the sanctity of said names, they restrict use to prayer. Other than liturgical context, those names can read as Hashem or “the name.” They use instead certain sounds to modify pronunciation of a name like replacing the ‘h’ with a ‘k’ in God such as ‘kel’ and ‘elokim’.

This was given to me by a friend which was sent to him by an Agnostic which proves that  Yahuah is the correct way of pronouncing YHWH and Yahusha is the name of his son.

Both inscriptions are consonant texts only. There are no vowel points even as signs for “Y” and “W” and “HE” function at times in two ways for both consonants and vowels. However, these words add nothing to the question how to pronounce “YHWH”.

The Moabite Stone (aka Mesha Stela) is paleo Moabite (the same script as paleo Hebrew). This is not pointed text (the vowel points were not provided until ca. AD 600).

If someone suggests it is pointed text that reads “YAHUSHA”, that individual is ignorant and does not understand what he is saying.  The issue is the Moabite Stone which is also “YHWH”. This fact has been proven for decades.

Is Yahusha the Correct name of His Son?

They insist that Yahusha is the true name of the Messiah and Iesus or Jesus is a pagan name.

Iesous is a Jewish-Greek name. it is common to several other Jews in the distant past. This is the LXX name of the hero as well as title of the book of Joshua. The older Hebrew name Yeshua. it was changed to the Greek Iêsous (Greek doe not have “sh” and use “s” instead. The final “s” is the Greek ending.

Iesous in the Greek NT stands for the very common Jewish name Yeshua. There are many examples of other Jews using this name and are called Iesous in Greek.

Yahusha is not Greek. (Greek has no “h” sound and no “sh” sound).

An exact transliteration of Yeshua in Greek would be Iesoua. But Greek personal names never end in “a” and so the “s” is used to make a Greek name form.

Ancient manuscripts prove the name of Jesus in Greek. We can see this as Nomina Sacra or Sacred Names in the oldest manuscripts.

Codex Sinaiticus of the 4th century manuscript proves Jesus in Greek is indeed the name of Jesus.

Here is nomina sacra and its meanings.

Jesus is not a Pagan name but correct translation of the Greek word, IESUS or Hebrew (Yeshua)

Well known scholars like Dr. Bruce Metzger is one of the translators of NRSV. They translated IESUS as “JESUS”. Dr. Daniel Wallace, popular Greek grammarian and Director of Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts (CSNTM) is one of the translators of the NET bible. He also translated “IESUS” as JESUS.
