SHOULD WE BELIEVE IN CHAIN MESSAGES, HOROSCOPE?

“FORWARD THIS TO 14 PERSON IF YOU DON’T WANT TO DIE ETC.”

That is the most common chain messages or letters that we can read every day in social media especially on Facebook. Should we believe on this? The answer is NO. The Bible really condemns this.

FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO RECEIVES THE CHAIN TEXT MESSAGE.

Do not believe that something bad will happen to you if you do not forward the chain messages you receive.

“Have you heard something? Let it die with you, remain calm; you will not burst with it.”(Sirach 19:10).

FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO MADE THIS.

1. What you have done is an “iniquity” to God for using his name in vain.

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.” (Exodus 20:7).

2. You are responsible for what you are saying in text messages and social media.

“I tell you this; on the judgment day people will have to give an account of any unjustified word they have spoken.” (Matthew 12:36).

3. If you don’t stop maybe you and your family will die because of what you are saying just like the Prophets who has an imagination.

“But The Lord said,”These prophets have proclaimed untruths in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. False visions, worthless divinations and delusions of their own imagination – that is what they prophesy And The Lord added, These prophets whom I did not send and who prophesy in my name, saying that the sword and famine will not touch this land – these same prophets will perish by the sword and famine. As for the people listening to them, their corpses will be thrown into the streets of Jerusalem. There will be no one to bury them or their wives, their sons or daughters, when they die of famine and by the sword. For I shall make their own malice fall upon them.” (Jeremiah 14:14 -16).

The Catechism of the Catholic Church warns us that to “attribute the efficacy of prayers or of sacramental signs to their mere external performance, apart from the interior dispositions that they demand, is to fall into superstition” (CCC 2111). Thus, electronic chain prayers (or letters) can become an occasion of sin (CCC 2111, 1 Cor 8:13).

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says about the First Commandment: “Superstition is the deviation of religious feeling and of the practices this feeling imposes. It can even affect the worship we offer the true God, e.g., when one attributes an importance in some way magical to certain practices otherwise lawful or necessary” (CCC 2111).

Regarding to the Horoscope, The Catechism of the Catholic Church instructs us:

All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. CONSULTING HOROSCOPES. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone. (CCC 2116).

All the advice you receive has made you tired. WHERE ARE ALL YOUR ASTROLOGERS, those stargazers WHO MAKE PREDICTIONS each month? Let them stand up and save you from what the future holds. But they are like straw burning in a fire; THEY CANNOT SAVE THEMSELVES FROM THE FLAME. You will get no from them at all; their heart is no place to sit for warmth. – Isaiah 47:13 – 14

Remember: We are Catholics, we believe and worship God not the Chain messages, Horoscopes.
