EXPOSING ELI: Did Jesus resurrect on Sunday?

.
Today, we are celebrating the day that Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead because it is the Resurrection Sunday. Unfortunately, there are some “Bible Christians” who rejected the idea that Jesus was resurrected on Sunday. One example is Eli Soriano, and in one of his statements, he said:
.
“So, the Lord Jesus Christ was not there on the beginning of Sunday at the end of the Sabbath [1].”
.
Eli Soriano is the same person who holds to the view that Jesus was buried at the beginning of the Sabbath, and in my article yesterday, I proved that his view is against the Bible [2]. Unfortunately, his error does not stop there. According to Soriano, Jesus Christ was not present in the tomb at the beginning of Sunday which would imply that Jesus was resurrected exactly at the end of the Sabbath. His interpretation is based on a false understanding of the Jewish idiom “three days and three nights”, and in my previous article that proves that Jesus died on Friday, I’ve shown that this statement doesn’t always mean literally 72 hour period [3]. In the same video, Soriano also contradicted himself when he said:
.
“Thursday then Friday then Saturday another Sabbath and resurrected just after the second Sabbath on that week [1].”
.
Whether Soriano misspoke or not, we should consider the evidence from the Bible that they use to show that Jesus was not resurrected on the first day of the week. Christians who hold to this view use Matthew 28:1 to show that Jesus already resurrected before Sunday.
.
Matthew 28:1
28 Now after the sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Mag′dalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulchre.
.
In Matthew 28:1, it’s clear that there were women who went to the tomb after the Sabbath and toward the dawn of the first day of the week. At this time, we also know that what they saw was an empty tomb. From these facts, they concluded that Jesus rose from the dead before the first day of the week. However, the false reasoning lies when they say that Jesus rose from the dead before the first day simply because the women found an empty tomb on the dawn of the first day. The false premise can be seen in a similar fallacious argument that I will be presenting below.
.
Premise 1: I woke up before 6:00 am.
Premise 2: 12 midnight is before 6:00 am.
Conclusion: I woke up at midnight.
.
It’s clear that this reasoning is illogical because I could wake up anywhere before 6:00 am. I could wake up at 1:00 am, 2:00 am, 3:00 am, 4:00 am, 5:00 am or anywhere in between. In the same way, the same false argument can be seen to those who hold to the view that Jesus rose on the Sabbath as seen below.
.
Premise 1: Jesus rose before the dawn of the first day.
Premise 2: The end of Sabbath was before the dawn of the first day.
Conclusion: Therefore, Jesus rose at the end of the Sabbath.
.
The fact is, if Jesus was resurrected before the dawn of the first day, it doesn’t follow that He did not resurrect on Sunday. His resurrection could come anywhere between Saturday 6:00 pm to Sunday 6:00 am, and He still resurrected on the first day of the week. But, do we have evidence that Sunday is resurrection day? Yes, and one evidence is found in Luke 24.
.
Luke 24:21
21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is NOW the THIRD DAY since this happened [emphasis added].
.
We knew that Jesus appeared to the women who went to the tomb on the same day that they discovered it to be empty. At the same time, this was the same day that Jesus talked to some strangers who knew Jesus Christ and His claims. And, according to them, NOW (referring to Sunday) is the THIRD DAY (the Day of Resurrection).
