As Metro Manila and nearby provinces face widespread flooding from the southwest monsoon and Tropical Storm Crising, the Catholic Church is once again stepping forward—not just with prayers, but with action.
🏥 Churches Open Their Doors
Dioceses in Malolos and Cubao have opened parish churches to evacuees seeking shelter. Churches in Bulacan (Marilao, Guiguinto, Meycauayan, Bocaue, Calumpit, Santa Maria, Hagonoy, Valenzuela, and Malolos) and Quezon City are actively housing displaced families, see: Churches open to evacuees, launch donation drive for flood victims
Meanwhile, Caritas Philippines has launched an emergency appeal through the Alay Kapwa Solidarity Fund, calling for donations of food, hygiene kits, and thermal supplies.
📖 Catholic Social Teaching in Action
The Church’s response reflects key principles of Catholic Social Teaching:
- Human dignity: Every person deserves safety and compassion
- Solidarity: We are one body in Christ—when one suffers, all suffer
- Preferential option for the poor: The most vulnerable must be our priority
This is love in action. As Pope Francis reminds us, “Faith without works is dead.”
🙏 Prayer for Safety and Resilience
Heavenly Father, As the floodwaters rise, we seek Your shelter. Protect the vulnerable, guide the rescuers, and comfort the displaced. May Your peace calm the chaos, and Your mercy restore what was lost. Strengthen our hearts to serve, give, and pray with compassion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
